Phew, it’s been a busy couple of weeks since I posted my July update. So much going on, so much learning, so many things I have found of interest to me that I want to share with you. So here goes…
Work
I am not working at the moment but have started looking at what is available in the world. I have had a bit of ‘corporate fatigue’ after my last role. Again the work was really important and purposeful but OMG the bureaucracy was crazy so am very much considering a ‘seachange’ and thinking Bunnings retail or similar (will try the local hardware too). Every time I mention it to my friends, every single one of them say it’s the perfect role for me. Yes I can do customer service (and have done so) plus I do DIY and I did do a couple of related courses (3-month pre-apprenticeship course fitting and turning, basic woodworking and upholstery)
I’m also considering a horticulture course, and did enquire before the last semester started, but they were either too expensive, or were back to face-to-face teaching and not my preferred option.
I’ve also had contact from a couple of my peers (one an ex RMIT student) asking for some guidance and about possible short term opportunities. Short term I like the sound of and I am always happy to chat to help kick off a KM project. I might have to share a seperate post about that.

Home
We have a family of magpies who come visit most days, They steal the dog kibble as well as the bird food we put out. Tash asked if I knew if they were make or female and I really had no idea but then I saw a Magpie Whisperer post about it.

What I’ve been watching
CRICKET
Watched all of the Women’s T20 matches in the Commonwealth Games. Excited and proud that the Australian women won the gold medal.

Started a Discord server to discuss things Women’s cricket and its slowly starting to gain a few members. Feel free to join if you interested in chatting about the cricket with a focus on the women’s teams. https://discord.gg/JUh35dnQ
The Hundred
Now I’m watching “The Hundred“, usually the next day as it is based in England and so its often on at midnight. Thankfully many of the best international players, inlcuding Australians, have been recruited to play in The Hundred. It’s nice to see Ellyse Perry get a few great innings in, as well as Elyse Villani. Plus I’ve been watching Amanda-Jade Wellington’s YouTube vlogs about both the Comm Games and now The Hundred and they are great insights into a cricket sporting professional’s daily activities and duties.
What is The Hundred you ask?
The Hundred is a professional franchise 100-ball cricket tournament involving eight men’s and eight women’s teams located in major cities across England and Wales (wikipedia)
One-hundred-ball cricket is a form of limited overs cricket, played by two teams each playing a single innings made up of 100 balls.[15] Games last approximately two and a half hours.[16]
The format of the game is:
- 100 balls per innings[17]
- A change of ends after 10 balls[17]
- Bowlers deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls[17]
- Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game[17]
- Each bowling side gets a strategic time-out of up to two and a half minutes[17]
- A 25-ball powerplay start for each team[17]
- Two fielders are allowed outside the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay[17]
- Teams will be able to call time-outs, as has been the case in the IPL since 2009[18]
- The non-striker must return to their original end after a caught dismissal[19]
- No-balls are worth two runs and a free hit[19]
- Slow over-rates are penalised by one fewer fielder being permitted outside the ring for the final over.[20]
