Most excellent playlist(s)

I’m a child… of the 80s but partied in the 90s and 00s as well.Back in the day, I listened to new music on 3RRR and 3PBS (FM radio stations in Melbourne) and then used the iTunes to find music I’d not heard before. I could find some awesome out there tracks and occassionally predict a Top 40 hit.

Yeah I’m old, I recognise that. I took great pleasure yesterday in having an hour long car ride. I listed to the Purple Rain soundtrack by Prince & the Revolution. It’s just over 40 years since that album was released (26 July). And I’d heard it the first time around!

And this is where I share my Instagram post about picking up a vinyl picture disc copy of the soundtrack at the airport in LA.

Anyway, the point is… What is the point?

Ah yes, I have 2 points:

  1. I’m listening to a Spotify playlist of 12″ classics – tracks in the 80s and 90s that had special extended versions of 7″ singles made so that the record companies could make more money from their artists – yes this is the draft version (or V1) of sampling and remixes.
  2. Share music (Start a jam) with one of your colleagues, friends, kids. (the jam combines the music from both (or more) playlists and is a great way to be exposed to new music, stuff you might not normally hear/listen to.

Guess I better curate a playlist! I’ll try to remember to update fortnightly.

And the bonus track

this amazing track that was originally on Tiktok but you know copyright stuff so it’s on YouTube. All hail November Ultra. Oh wait she is on Spotify too
